Good news! We are pleased to announce that new clients may now
open a mutual fund account online with Sun Life! 🙂
This means that you can begin your investment journey with just a few clicks.
And – it only takes a selfie and Php100 to Php1,000 to get started!
In case you’re wondering what is a mutual fund, I also made a detailed post about it where you’ll know how it works, how to choose an investment fund, the charges, the requirements to open an account, and etc.
Here are the steps on how you can open a mutual fund account online:
Step 1: Go to www.sunlife.com.ph.
Step 2: Go to the ‘Investments’ tab and click ‘Sun Life Prosperity Funds’.
Step 3: Scroll down and click the plus ‘+’ sign to see the different Sun Life Prosperity Peso and Dollar Funds you can choose from.
There is a minimum initial investment requirement set per fund:
a. Sun Life Prosperity Money Market Fund: Php100.00
b. All other peso-denominated Funds (Bond, Balanced etc.): Php1,000.00
Also, at the moment, sales load options for initial investments are set to:
|Money Market Fund||No Load|
|Achiever Funds||Back Load|
|All other Peso Funds||Front Load|
Subsequent investments made through the My Sun Life account web portal and the Sun Life PH mobile app will have the option to be invested using the Front-End or Back-End load.
Step 4: Click the particular fund you want to invest in.
On each page of the prosperity funds, you can see their latest Fund Fact Sheet and also the Fund Prospectus which can help you decide whether it’s the perfect fund for your investment goals.
Step 5: Once decided on which fund to invest in, click ‘Buy Now’ on the right side portion of the page to start opening an account.
P.S. It’s important that you read and understand the Online Investment Application Notice before proceeding to the next step.
Step 6: When you proceed, you’ll now have to answer the ‘Investor Suitability Assessment’. Then click ‘Continue’.
This assessment will give you an idea of what type of investor you are, whether a conservative one, moderate or aggressive. It serves as a reference to your ability and willingness to absorb losses from your investments (risk appetite), which may change over time based on your current goals and life stage.
Take note that this is for reference only and is not to be taken as advice from SLAMCI on how to manage your investment.
Step 7: Fill up the ‘Client Information’ with your details.
This is the part of online application where you need to upload a valid government ID and a selfie with it.
Step 8: Fill up the ‘Financial Advisor Information’.
If you wish to have a Financial Advisor to assist and guide you all throughout your investment journey, as long as he/she is licensed to offer and sell mutual funds, fill up the Financial Advisor Information field of your advisor’s code.
This is recommended so they can have an access with your account, for monitoring and update purposes, and especially in case you have concerns about your mutual fund account.
As for me, here’s my Advisor’s code:
099059 – Christine Caranyagan
Send me a message so I can assist you better in opening your mutual fund account online with Sun Life and in your investment journey.
Step 9: Read the ‘Investor’s Acknowledgement and Agreement’ and click ‘I Agree’.
After filling up the Client Information page, a pop up window will appear so you can review your details. Double check everything to avoid delay of processing.
After doing so, you have to acknowledge them through the Investor’s Acknowledgement and Agreement by scrolling down and clicking I Agree button.
Step 10: Lastly, select Payment Method.
You have three payment methods to choose from to complete your mutual fund account opening.
✅Bank deposit or online fund transfer
✅Sun Life Prosperity Card
✅Sun Life Financial Store
Once you have completed this step, then your application will be subjected for review and processing within 2 business days. Please note, however, that SLAMCI may ask for additional details prior to application approval.
Other Things You Need to Know in Opening a Sun Life Mutual Fund Account Online
✅ Accounts opened online, through Electronic Know-Your-Client (eKYC), have a maximum gross investment limit of Php50,000.00. Upon Face-To-Face verification at selected Sun Life Client Service Centers, verified accounts will no longer have a prescribed investment limit.
✅ The verification requirement may be completed at select Sun Life Client Service Centers (CSC) in the Philippines. Please remember to visit the branch personally and bring a valid primary government ID for checking and validation purposes.
✅ A verified client has the credit to bank account or CSC check pick-up redemption options. Meanwhile, only the latter option is available to an unverified online client.
